Not really. Every experienced dancer who joins Dance Mambo starts with an assessment. This is how we make sure you are placed at the right level and given the right direction from day one, and how we maintain the standard in every class for everyone already training with us.

All new students are introduced to our classes either on week 1 or week 2 of each term.

Yes. The Salsa Challenge is a 4-week beginner program designed specifically for people with zero dance experience. Small groups of 10 maximum, professional instruction, and a format that lets you start any week without missing anything. It runs every Monday and Wednesday at 6pm. You pay $99 to secure your spot in the challenge. If you attend every session across the four weeks, you get the full $99 back, no questions asked. If you decide to continue into our next course, you can put it toward that instead. The deposit exists to protect your commitment and the experience of everyone else in the room. We are putting our product on the line. All you have to do is show up.

You dance with us as part of one of our classes. We watch, ask questions, and talk through where you are and what you want to achieve. It is not an audition; there is no pass or fail. At the end, we give you a clear, honest recommendation for your training pathway. It takes one hour and is free of charge.

It is our flagship individual coaching program: 24 weeks of fully bespoke training combining private lessons, group classes, studio practice time, and weekly video feedback. Built around your specific goals, delivered in person by Fed or Pao. Available twice a year, by application only. If you are serious about reaching the highest level of your dancing, this is the most direct path to get there.

Salsa and mambo are the same dance family; mambo is the original form, and salsa is the name that became popular as the music and dance spread internationally. The main difference you will encounter is the timing. Most schools in Sydney teach salsa on1; at Dance Mambo we teach salsa on2, also known as mambo, where the strongest step falls on beat 2. The steps are practically identical, but the highlights and directions change. On2 is the timing used by the most serious dancers and at the world's top congresses. It sits more naturally inside the music, particularly with the clave rhythm that underpins salsa and mambo. It is a more demanding style to learn, which is exactly why we built a school specifically around teaching it properly.

Most beginner dance classes put 20, 30, sometimes 50 people in a room and hope for the best. We cap the Salsa Challenge at 10 people per class deliberately. You get individual attention, faster progress, and a proper foundation rather than a crash course in copying someone at the front of the room. The goal is not to entertain you for four weeks. It is to make you a dancer.
